Smoking has 'shocking' impact on reproductive health

Smoking damages almost all aspects of sexual, reproductive and child health, reveals a "shocking" new report.

The document, released by the British Medical Association (BMA) on Wednesday, is the most comprehensive look yet at the effects of smoking on reproductive health and reveals a grim picture.
Smoking has grave effects on both male and female fertility and enormous repercussions on child health. It increases the risk of miscarriage, stillbirth and sudden infant death syndrome, or "cot death".
Smoking also interferes with the sex hormones, and so affects women's reproductive health. Female smokers are at risk of painful and irregular periods and are likely to reach menopause earlier than non-smokers.
Those taking the combined oral contraceptive pill are 20 times more likely to suffer blood clots which may lead to heart attack or stroke than non-smokers, warns Jones.
