I've been looking around for any film of traditional kabuki theatre? and it seems very difficult to find. have any suggestions?

there arent really any (at least that i know of). traditionally kabuki is a live performance art and filming any of it is not-permitted. there are a few films out there that sorta kinda show tiny portions of kabuki or japanese sytle live performance art. Dolls by Takeshi Kitano (Beat Takeshi) for instance opens up with Japanese traditional doll performance...

yeah... that's what I figured. sigh. thank you for your help.

I've seen bits and pieces of Kabuki in films, mainly the old samurai films. There was a really fabulous dance scene in Zatoichi done by a female impersonator. (he of course danced as well if not better than most of the real female geisha I've seen)

Thanks to my amazing boyfriend I got to see the Heisei Nakamura-za Kabuki troupe when they were in town and ever since then I've been Kabuki hungry with nothing in sight to eat.

someday I'll make it to the Miyako Odori :(

what is?

Id like to know what a tatami is. Its so cute and so refreshing to see people of their culture be proud of it and embrace it. I see whites trying to act like blacks and people trying to americanize themselves to death.. Thank goodness there are balanced minded folks still out there who are real with themselves and are not afriad to be the real them : ) but yeah what is a tatami ? I feel like I must have lived a hundread lives before.. Ever get that deja-cu feeling when you hear a certian word and it triggers a familar but lost somewhere feeling? I get those when I am around Asian cultures and Midiveil reinactments fronm the 15th century..

Re: what is?

Believe it or not I designed my whole neighborhood in the this game called "The Sims" with tis exact same stuff. If we cant have our dream home or heaven on earth then that he wonderuos power of video games! It helps to unwind after work and play God for a bit. I loved the stair step style stereo on the page you sent me and I actually one in all my Asian style homes I have created with all my beautiful Asian famillies.

We both would make great interior decorators!

Thanks for sharing!!
