really frickin annoyed
so this morning i called for a tow truck to take my car into the dealership service shop. it took about 1.5 hours for the guy to arrive, then he has the audacity to think he knows better than i do by insisting that the problem is a dead battery. so he does the jump and the car starts up. i still insist to him that the car needs to be towed as the problem is that the alternator is dead or dying. he brushes me off and drives off. i call AAA again to tell them what has happened. they tell me that they will get another tow truck but will i please let the car idle for the requisite 30 min or so to see if it really is a problem. i tell them, "look ive gone through this already, trust me the alternator is the problem". no go. so i wait. and the car dies. so i call them and tell them that they really need to send the tow truck. they tell me it will take an hour. i tell them to hurry up. 2 hours later, the AAA service guy shows up, no tow truck. i tell him its an alternator problem. he calls it in and i call AAA. they tell me a tow truck will take an hour. so i tell them to cancel it and ill deal with it tomorrow morning as i have to go to the office. total time to NOT get a tow truck - 3.5 hours.

god nab it. hopefully tomorrow will be better

Sounds like a battery problem. I can bring over some jumper cables...

Once he jumps it, be sure to let it idle for a while. Have to charge that battery, you know.
Braxanabraxana on February 6th, 2007 01:26 pm (UTC)
assuming the battery can charge. thats my point, it just dies after a few min

and people wonder why i don't want to get a car and drive...

last line "total time to NOT get a tow truck - " sounded very much like the amex commercials.

good luck with tomorrow.

That sucks!
Good luck tomorrow with that!

Cars can be trying! I know I spent more money, last year, on the Kia repairs than I will on the new VW payments this year.

Is the alternator easy to get at? If so, just yank it and take it to an autoparts store and get it tested for free. Can do the same with the battery too.

3.5 hours is more time than it should take to diagnosis and repair the problem. (provided the alternator isn't in a really-really-really bad spot)
